Franz Carl Kappert was born on February 9, 1879 in Essen, Germany, to Wilhelm Kappert and Maria Feissel. He emigrated to the United States as a "Babe in Arms", as he was called on the ship, with his entire family arriving in 1881. He married an unknown woman who died in childbirth along with the child.
On November 21, 1901, he married Charlotte Schaeffer. They lived on Allen Aven in Pittsburgh and had two children, Margaret Myrtle and Charles Francis .
In 1920, he is listed as a Boxmaker in a Glass factory and in 1930 he was a manager at the Nufer Cedar Company.
He came to be known as Frank, "Americanizing" his name like his father had. After the death of his father, his mother lived with him and Charlotte.
He lived long enough to know a number of his great grandchildren who, like his grandchildren, referred to him as "Bopsie". Franz died on April 24, 1966, at the age of 87. He is buried in St. Georges Cemetery in Pittsburgh, PA.
